Iran’s ‘The Other’ to participate in Gandhara filmfest

The 2021 edition of the Gandhara Independent Film Festival (GIFF) in Pakistan has been set to host acclaimed Iranian short flick ‘The Other’.

Ako Zand-Karimi and Saman Hosseinpour’s short film will go on screen at the Main Competition program of the 2nd edition of the Pakistani fest.

‘The Other’ tells the story of a traditional man who suspects his dead wife of having an extra marital affair.

He goes from bad to worse when he suspects her daughter belonging to the other man.

The cast list of the flick includes Mohammad Potki, Mohammad Bidaq-Beigi, Asieh Moradizar, and Shiva Soufi-Mahmoudi.

The film has already participated in a number of global events and won awards, including the Best Silent Film award at the Venice Intercultural Film Festival in Italy and the Best Cinematography award at the International Film and Music Festival Kustendorf in Serbia.

The theme of the GIFF 2021 is on mental health. According to the official website of the event, it aims to challenge the negative perspective towards the mental illness.

The upcoming edition of the fest will be held online due to the coronavirus pandemic on January 9-10.
